Initial Meeting:
I believe that in working to help children and adolescents, my relationship with parents is very important. Because of this, I consider an initial meeting as an opportunity for us to learn how we can work together for the mutual benefit of the child/adolescent.
In our first session, I will ask you to tell me about your current situation, and I will ask you questions so that I can learn more about the background of the problem. This usually includes questions about family background, educational issues, support systems, and strengths. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions about the process of therapy or my approach.
Should we decide to work together, we will create a plan to help your family. In some cases, families find periodic consultations to be most helpful, while other families find their needs are best met in ongoing, continuous therapy. When my work is individual therapy with children or adolescents, we will schedule periodic parent meetings (please see my policies regarding a child's need for privacy, and a parent's right to their child's information).

NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS:
Any evaluation will also begin with an initial meeting during which I will work with you to determine what the goals of the evaluation will be. In addition, I will gather background information about your child's developmental history, health, educational experiences, and family background to help me get to know more about you and your child. Some insurance companies require pre-authorization for evaluations, and in this case I will also gather the information necessary to request authorization from your insurance.
