Treatment Orientation:

I specialize in providing evidence-based psychotherapy. I use approaches that have been researched and shown to be clinically effective. I work collaboratively with families to find an approach that meets your needs.  I consider myself a partner to my clients and their parents, working together to meet your goals.  I often use a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach with my clients to build skills to manage difficult thoughts and behaviors.  I also frequently teach mindfulness and communication skills, depending on the child or family's interests and needs.

Structure of Therapy:

A therapy session typically lasts 45 minutes.  I will spend at least the first session or two getting to know you and collaborating to create our treatment goals.  During this early part of our work together, I will be paying close attention to my client's emotional and learning style, and developing a therapy approach that feels comfortable to them.  Depending on the child’s age, I may meet mostly alone with the child, with the family together, or some combination of the two.  If I am working mainly 1:1 with your child, I am always available for “check-in” meetings with parents.

Areas of Specialty:

*Coping with anxiety- I typically use an exposure-based, cognitive behavioral therapy approach

*Teaching skills to help manage depression or other difficulties with mood

*Helping parents learn skills to manage a child’s difficult behaviors

*Coping with symptoms of ADHD, including difficulty with organization, social difficulties, or low self-esteem

*Facilitating communication between family members who are experiencing change or transition (adoption, death, divorce, addition of new family members)

*Providing support and solutions for school-related difficulties

*Providing support around issues of gender identity and sexuality
